Charity of the Year 2024: FearFree
As Atelier's 2024 Charity of the Year, we supported FearFree with their digital marketing efforts.
Unity came to Atelier with a website design project, aiming to boost the visibility of their community support services with an accessible, user-friendly website that could be managed in-house.
“It has been a delight to work with Atelier and have them design and deliver our new website. They are
knowledgeable in their field and incredibly friendly and approachable.” – Unity
Unity is a non-profit incorporated charity supported by Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council.
As a community-focused organisation, Unity provides a wide range of support services across Test Valley, including information and signposting, social prescribing, home support, and more.
The goal of this project was to redesign and develop a user-friendly, accessible website that showcases Unity’s services, and improves user engagement, whilst allowing Unity’s internal teams to update and manage the website moving forward.
Unity required a modernised website that presented its range of services clearly, making it easier for users to find the right information quickly.
Unity’s project goals included:
“From our initial contact with them, through to the design and build phases and on to the website launch, they have been consistent and reliable, and were always on hand to respond to any query we might have had. Nothing ever seemed to be too much bother for them.”
We maintained Unity’s overarching brand identity, whilst giving each service area its own colour palette.
This clearly differentiated between services, making it easier for users to navigate, but maintained Unity’s brand identity throughout.
We created a clean, intuitive navigation that guides users to the right information quickly. The website’s design is simple yet aesthetically pleasing, reducing friction and improving user experience.
We designed flexible drag-and-drop content blocks that allow Unity’s team to easily manage and update the website in-house.
Ensuring the website meets WCAG standards was a priority – the site supports screen readers, includes proper colour contrast, and follows best practices for accessibility.
We implemented an online shop with a booking system for mobility equipment hire. Users can browse, check availability, and book directly, and Unity staff can efficiently manage stock and rentals.
A flexible appointment booking system allows users to book appointments across Unity’s services. This helps Unity manage appointments efficiently while ensuring users can easily access the support they need.
By submitting a simple form, organisations can now get their volunteer opportunities listed on Unity’s website. The Unity team can then post the listing, connecting volunteers with local causes.
We created a self-managed directory that lets organisations sign up to be featured. Once they have been admin-approved, they can update their own directory listing via a login area.
To improve security and make the website easy-to-use for Unity’s various internal teams, we implemented tiered user access. Now, depending on role, user permissions can be updated to limit access to specific areas of the backend.
“Our new website was delivered stress free, with no fuss, and the end result is amazing, generating a lot of positive responses from people who use and visit it.”
Comparing the year-on-year data, Unity saw significant improvements in organic performance and user engagement after the launch of the new website.
The redesigned Unity website successfully delivers increased visibility, stronger community engagement, and improved user experience.
With a modern, accessible design, distinct branding for each service area, and easy-to-use features for both users and Unity’s internal team, the new website is helping Unity achieve its goals – both internally, and within the community.
Since the launch, Unity has seen significant growth in website traffic, user engagement, and service bookings, demonstrating the impact of a well-structured, user-focused website.
Here at Atelier, we have loved partnering with Unity, and we’re proud to have played a role in supporting their mission and helping them expand their reach across Test Valley.
“I am almost sad the process is over as I will miss our weekly catchups, and regular contact with the developers. Many thanks Atelier, you have been amazing. Service outstanding!”
