What Portsmouth gets from an Atelier build
The engineering standards behind every website we ship
Local Roots
We have built for Portsmouth and south Hampshire businesses throughout our 25 years, with face time always on the table.
360 Offer
Designers, developers and marketers in one room means your build inherits good decisions from every discipline, not just clean code.
Partnership
We specify everything in writing, provide clear, accurate pricing and stay on after launch with hosting, support and ideas.
Solid underneath, simple on top
Robust, futureproof website builds your staff can edit easily without help.
Portsmouth’s engineering heritage sets a good standard. Things should be built properly. Our websites are, from hosting architecture to the last content block.
The complexity stays under the bonnet. What your team sees is a clean editing screen where changing a page is a five-minute job, not a support request.

Storefronts engineered for success, on WooCommerce and Shopify, with live stock, payment and delivery integrations that keep orders flowing.
Charity
Our Atelier Impact team builds accessible charity websites with donation processing and supporter CRM integrations handled properly.

How the website development process works
Scope
Everything the site must do goes into a written specification first: features, content, integrations, CMS. No ambiguity, no surprises.
Architect
We design the machine before assembling it. Stack, hosting, template inventory and data flows are agreed and documented.
Build
Code written in standardised formats. Clean, version-controlled and on a staging site so you can watch it take shape.
Test
Devices, browsers, load times, security and accessibility all tested, followed by your own acceptance pass.
Launch and support
A controlled launch with redirects and monitoring in place, then support that keeps patching, improving and answering.
A written technical specification and a fixed price come before any build. Scope changes are agreed and costed so there are no surprise invoices.
Post-launch, the site stays under maintenance, with updates applied, performance watched and improvements proposed.
Be clear on exactly what you’re getting
Transparency over your spend with a detailed technical specification outlining features and functionality.

Questions about our Portsmouth website development services
What do you build websites with?
WordPress carries most of our builds, earned over hundreds of projects, with WooCommerce, Shopify and headless approaches used where they fit better. We choose per project, not per habit.
Can our team manage content without developers?
That is the design goal. Every build hands your staff an editing experience they can master in an afternoon, covering pages, blocks, menus and media.
Our website was built elsewhere. Can you take it on?
Routinely. We audit the code, hosting and security first, stabilise what needs it, then build an improvement plan from evidence.
Do you provide hosting and maintenance?
Both, if you want them: managed hosting with monitoring and backups, and a maintenance plan that keeps plugins, security and performance current.
We have systems that need connecting. Possible?
Almost always. CRMs, stock and order systems, booking engines and payment providers are everyday integrations here, specified and tested as core features.
Will the website be quick?
Speed is an engineering requirement, not a hope. Performance budgets and Core Web Vitals targets are set at scope and tested before launch.
How long from sign-off to live?
Eight to twelve weeks for most builds once designs are approved; longer for heavy ecommerce or integration work, and we will say so up front.
Whose code is it at the end?
Yours entirely: codebase, content, configuration and the documentation to use it all. No retainer hostage situations.
Can the design be done by you as well?
Yes, and it usually is; design and development run as one process here. The website design in Portsmouth page covers that half.
Does the build include SEO basics?
More than basics: redirect mapping, structure, schema, metadata and speed are development deliverables, so rankings survive the move and improve after it.
What will it cost?
The specification decides: templates, features, integrations, migration. You get an itemised quote and the ability to phase the less urgent parts.
Are you only after Portsmouth work?
We build across Hampshire, the South Coast and London. Portsmouth is close and familiar, which simply makes the logistics easy.
